SUCCESS STORY
TSC Alliance
Internationally recognized nonprofit engages top prospects and launches largest campaign in organizational history for critical research funding
The Situation
TSC Alliance funds research to combat tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), a genetic disorder that affects 50,000 Americans by causing tumors in various organs. Considered a “linchpin” disease, it shares features with other common diseases, such as autism, epilepsy, and cancer. The organization works to improve quality of care, advocate for those affected by the disease, and provide support services, thus serving both the patient and the medical/scientific communities.
The Solution
Graham-Pelton partnered with TSC Alliance in assessing the feasibility of an ambitious research-focused campaign – the first in the organization’s history. We began with a planning study that identified the organization’s strengths, including motivated leadership that possessed a genuine desire to find a cure for this devastating disease and improve the lives of those affected by it. When it came to engaging donors, they felt frustrated by a lengthy cultivation process – and the accompanying pressure that timely research might not be completed without the funding.
We focused on combining TSC Alliance’s data with the historical engagement of prospects to paint a realistic picture of their commitment. We were then able to coach the staff on systematically building engagement by leveraging natural partners and meeting each prospect where they are on the giving continuum. By instilling confidence in the president and board and enabling volunteer leaders to internalize best practices, we were able to help TSC Alliance launch the largest campaign in organizational history and move cultivation along for the top 50 prospective donors.
The Success
With Graham-Pelton’s support, TSC Alliance was able to seamlessly transition to virtual fundraising during the pandemic and has already reached $9 million in donations. We continue to provide strategic counsel to the organization, including committee leadership support, cultivation strategies, campaign communications, staff coaching, and the hiring of an additional development position to meet the needs of their growing efforts.
