Services: Planning Study, Campaign Management

In 2005, Graham-Pelton conducted a development assessment and fundraising planning services for Abby’s House to help prepare the organization to successfully undertake broader and more effective fundraising initiatives in preparation for a future fundraising campaign.

Personal strategic discussions were conducted with 17 individuals, and a review of development initiatives as well as a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis were undertaken. Recommendations were provided on operational components essential to effective fundraising, such as: achieving Board consensus on making fundraising a top organizational priority; distinguishing Abby’s House in the philanthropic market of Worcester and environs; developing and implementing annual fund strategies to increase the number of dollars raised and the average gift; building a long-term major gifts program to sustain Abby’s House between major fundraising campaigns; expanding and diversifying the Board; and developing the individual confidence levels of Board members in their ability and willingness to participate in major gift solicitations.

Graham-Pelton Consulting recently delivered to Abby’s House a campaign planning study around the potential to launch a campaign for renovations to the central building of the largest women’s homeless shelter and supportive housing organization in the western Massachusetts area.

Graham-Pelton developed approaches to securing gifts from new corporate leaders in the area and engaging with the new generation of local leaders during the campaign. Graham-Pelton recommended a working campaign goal and provided management services to launch the campaign into the major gift phase and coach new senior leadership in their role of fundraising for Abby’s House. An additional objective of the campaign is to redesign the recruitment and engagement of Board members, and Graham-Pelton advised on developing new approaches and processes with the leadership.
